HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY RELIEVE MY PAIN?

Hypnosis can help to reduce the pain in chronic conditions, including arthritis and fibromyalgia.  Hypnotherapy can be used as a tool to help manage pain which can be learnt and used in your own time when the pain strikes.

Hypnotherapy teaches you to relax and redirect your attention from the pain sensation and will also help you to learn how to react differently to the pain and control it.  Living with a constant pain can cause stress and anxiety and can make the pain worse, leaving one in a cycle of pain and discomfort, mentally and physically.  We can help you to deal with the side effects of pain also, relieving the stress and anxiety.  

There are also no side effects to hypnotherapy and you will be in control at all times.  

Using hypnosis for pain management, we can help the mind think differently (or not at all) about the pain we feel, and there are four general ways we can do it:

  • Distraction - train the mind to distract itself from the intensity of the pain, which works well for short-term and immediate pain relief.

  • Reframing - feed the subconscious to perceive the pain differently which can alter your reaction to the pain and how it feels to you.

  • Numbing - when using ice to numb the pain, you can actually visualise this numb feeling each time you experience pain which can help dull or numb the pain entirely.

  • Dissociation - here you separate yourself from the pain and involves a couple of guided visualisation techniques while in hypnosis.

CAN HYPNOTHERAPY REMOVE THE PAIN COMPLETELY?

Hypnosis helps the reduction in pain and relieve symptoms gained from having the pain such as stress and anxiety.  It is not a replacement for the medicine taken for pain relief - but can complement your current treatments.
