WHAT CAUSES A FEAR OF FLYING?
The fear to travel by plane is a learnt behaviour.
Having a fear to fly can stem from childhood or from a bad experience. It could also be from other phobias that one may have, such as claustrophobia, agoraphobia or a fear of heights.
Even the anticipation of feeling anxious before stepping onto a plane can lead to avoidance of travelling by plane altogether, but this will never remove the fear, and if anything, become a convincer for your mind that you were never meant to fly.
HAVING A FEAR OF FLYING
A fear of flying can really interfere with business trips and personal holidays.
A number of fears, thoughts and experiences can result in a fear of flying, but it isn't just being on the plane where the anxiety can set in. When afraid of flying, just booking a holiday, arriving at an airport or thinking about getting on a plane can trigger feelings of anxiety.
People suffering from a fear of flying could look to avoid the situation altogether, limiting their holiday choices, career choice and even miss out on family holidays/events abroad. However, everyone who has the fear to fly would not all experience the same amount of distress. The fear can range from mild anxiety before the flight to a state of extreme fear preventing a person from getting on the plane.
